  • NYC transit worker Kenneth Hoyt does 'platform control' during rush hour on the uptown Lexington Ave. line at the Grand Central subway station on the same day that the contract between the Transit Worker's Union (TWU) and the NYC Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) expired on Friday, December 16, 2005. The TWU's leadership has decided to continue with contract negotiations for at least another four days before declaring a strike, and Hoyt, a subway conductor who has been with the MTA for 36 years, said he hopes the union doesn't "give in."

  • Danny Barber, 41, stands in the burnt out lobby of the 18th floor of the "Morrisania Air Rights" building at 3204 Park Ave. in the Morrisania section of the Bronx on Wednesday, March 2, 2011. In December of 2010, a mattress was left in this lobby and set on fire, causing noticeable damage. After three months, NYCHA has yet to restore the damaged lobby. Barber, the tenant association's president at the nearby Andrew Jackson houses, has been lending a hand to the tenants at this public housing building with getting NYCHA to fix the damages.

In 1980 Hill was arrested by the FBI, became an informant and entered into the Witness Protection Program. Hill's life was featured in the book Wiseguy, written by crime reporter Nicholas Pileggi, and the 1990 Martin Scorsese film Goodfellas. Hill passed away in June 2012, he was 69.
